$40K No Limit Holdem 2009 WSOP Event #2 Day One

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

First off I would like to continue where I finished off yesterday. The first event at this year’s World Series of Poker was the Casino Employees Event which had a $500 buy-in. We talked yesterday about the progress in that tournament and they finished it up last night after almost playing twelve hours of poker on the second day. Andrew Cohen who was amongst the leaders throughout most of the tournament ended up winning and taking home the grand prize of $83,778. Cohen was awarded the 1st WSOP bracelet of 2009 so there is now 56 more bracelets left to hand out this year.

The second event on the 2009 WSOP schedule is the $40K No Limit Holdem tournament which is featuring some of the biggest names in poker. There were a total of 201 poker players who started the tournaments and after the first day the tournament was down to just 89 players. The action for day two will kick off today so I’ll keep you updated as progress is made in the event.

Some of the poker players who are playing in this event consist of Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, John Juanda, Peter Eastgate and Chris Moneymaker. The field of past champions is huge in this event and it should make for an excellent final table once it gets down to that point. The current leader in the event at the completion of day one is Bruno Fitoussi although it’s still anyone’s game as there is still plenty of action to be played. Chris Moneymaker is currently not very far behind the leader and is sitting in second place right now so we might have some big news from Moneymaker if he can managed to complete the victory in this event with a massive prize pool.

2009 World Series of Poker Is Underway

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

The 2009 World Series of Poker is now underway and after all the hype the past couple months I’m just glad that the events are finally underway now. Many of the world’s best poker players will be spending the next month in Las Vegas at the Rio and it’s sure to be an action packed month of June with tons of WSOP events taking place. I’m also sure that there will be plenty of nice cash games taking place in the casinos when there aren’t any WSOP tournaments being played.

Yesterday the WSOP kicked off with the $500 Casino Employees event which is an event to reward the casino employees every year for the hard work they do. The major events won’t be starting until later in June, but many of the smaller events will be starting over the next few days at the Rio. This year at the World Series of Poker there is going to be a record breaking fifty-seven bracelet events being played which is more then any other year in the past.

The Casino Employees event seen 866 players from around the world start on day 1, but by the end of yesterday there were only 81 players left in the event. The players will be finishing up the tournament today so by tomorrow morning I will have posted about who won the first bracelet of the 2009 WSOP. Make sure you bookmark the blog because I will be providing daily coverage of every single WSOP event as it takes place. If you’re looking for up to date 2009 WSOP news then this is going to be the place to be.

Fortune Poker Rakeback

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

Fortune Poker is one of the smaller online poker rooms right now, but they have one of the sweetest deals for players who like rakeback. If you don’t know what rakeback is I would recommend researching it a little bit, but for the most part its money that you’ll receive back from the money that is raked from the hands you play.

Fortune Poker offers a 30% rakeback deal so if you play enough poker then this amount will definitely add up to be a nice amount. Plus there is no point in leaving free money on the table so if you’re planning on playing with Fortune Poker then you should make sure you sign-up for the Fortune Poker Rakeback deal.

The poker room offers various poker games, but they definitely won’t have more then the bigger poker rooms like William Hill Poker or Full Tilt Poker. Fortune Poker does offer one of the bigger sign-up bonuses for players though, so if you like earning bonuses then this is one you’ll love. Fortune Poker offers all new players a 200% bonus for up to $1000 which is more then even the biggest online poker rooms offer their players.

The rakeback that you earn is paid monthly although I’m sure if you contacted the support team they would be able to work something out for you if you needed too. I haven’t personally played on Fortune Poker yet, but with the enticing sign-up bonus and rakeback deal I might take advantage of it to test out the network. If I do then you can bet I will make sure I add a review of the poker room on the blog.

Full Tilt $1K Monday Results

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

On Monday at Full Tilt Poker the $1K tournament took place which featured a total of 341 poker players fighting for the first place prize. The tournament drew a lot of players and it could be due to many players trying to get in some practice before the World Series of Poker which is set to start. The first place prize was a little over $85K which is a pretty nice payday for the amount of players who competed in the event.

The chip stacks to start the final table were actually real close and nobody had a huge lead over anyone else. In total there was less then a 200K chip difference between first place and last place when the final table started which is fairly rare to see. This meant that anyone had a chance to win the event and it turned out that one of the short stacks to star the final table won the event.

Matt Shepsky who started the final table in second last place managed to fight the odds and come through with the victory on Monday and won just over $85K. The players who made it to the final table were as followed including their finishing position and how much they made.

• Matt Shepsky – $85250

• Kismatwala03197 – $54560

• Karl Fenton – $40920

• Kevin Stammen – $31542.50

• Greg Howard – $23870

• JGMRT3 – $17050

• DJFlunk – $11082.50

• J Clhampion – $8525

• AlexMich – $6820

Playing Online Casino Games

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

I know that over the years I have played online poker I have dabbled into online casino games as well when I don’t feel like playing poker. I must say that some of the online casino games are very profitable and if you’re making money playing poker there is no reason why you can’t make more money playing casino games.

You will find that poker is generally cheaper to play then most online casino games, but like most things when there is more risk there is more reward. Some of the games you should check out when you’re playing in an online casino are slot machines, roulette, craps, blackjack and video poker.

Most online casinos will allow you to play for free or for real money, but you will need to decide which works for you. You can also win money through freeroll tournaments if you aren’t able to make any deposits into the casino, although this is a slow way of building your bankroll and most of you will most likely prefer making a deposit.

You will find that playing casino games online is a much quicker way then playing online poker if you’re looking to make money. There are some great websites online with casino tips and although I only write and talk about poker if you decide to check out an online casino make sure you do your research before joining an online casino just like you would do before playing in an online poker room.

PKR Rakeback

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

PKR Poker is one of the most revolutionized online poker rooms right now as they have a unique software engine which allows players to play poker in 3D settings online. You also get to create your own character to use at the poker tables and it’s a really fun way of playing poker especially since there are hundreds of emotions to use while playing.

PKR also offers a rakeback program for players and if you don’t know what rakeback is it simply means that you will get a percentage of the money raked while you’re playing. Every time you sit down and play poker you will notice that every hand is raked so instead of losing this money you might as well sign-up for a PKR rakeback account. Typically you will be able to find a 30% rakeback deal which could add up if you play a lot of online poker.

If you have never played on PKR Poker before then not only will you get a nice rakeback deal, but you will also get a nice welcome bonus. All new players automatically receive a match bonus of 100% up to $800 when they sign-up with the PKR rakeback deal. At PKR they will pay the rakeback once a month at the beginning of the month and you should always have it in your account by the 10th of the month.

You won’t be automatically signed up for a PKR rakeback account just by joining the online poker room so you need to make sure you enter the proper code. I personally didn’t know the code until I went and found one at the PKR Rakeback blog.

Expekt Poker Signs Scotty Nguyen

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

Not to many poker players have been signing sponsorship deals anywhere due to the tough economy, but Scotty Nguyen just recently inked a deal with Expekt Poker. Expekt is one of the leading online gambling portals as they offer online poker, online sports wagering and online bingo. The Expekt Poker room is on the iPoker Network which is the fastest growing online poker network in the world and just recently took over third place for the biggest poker room in the world.

Scotty Nguyen has been playing poker for a very long time now and over the years Scotty has won over $10 million on the various poker circuits. Just last year Scotty won the massive $50K H.O.R.S.E. Poker event and he will be playing in many more events this year as part of the sponsorship deal. He will be wearing the Expekt logo at every event and he said he can’t wait to start playing poker and representing one of the strongest poker brands in the world.

As part of the deal with Expekt Poker Nguyen will be constructing video blog and a written monthly piece. Both will be on the Expekt website and will be mainly focused around poker strategy since we all know how good Scotty can play the game. This has been the biggest poker sponsorship in 2009 thus far and although it’s been a little bit of a slow year to poker so far in 2009 the WSOP is starting soon so we’ll have tons to talk about.

Celebrity Apprentice Roundup

Posted by: Scott  :  Category: Poker Blog

If you guys haven’t already heard about it in the news the second season of the Celebrity Apprentice just finished and the winner was Joan Rivers. Annie Duke who is a professional poker player with a WSOP bracelet finished in second place and it was a very heated battle between Joan and Annie. The two of them fought all season long exchanging punchlines with each other and it lead to the finale of the show with the two of them squaring off against each other.

In the final task the two of them needed to host a party and a silent auction with five separate categories being scored. At the end of the task Joan slipped away with the slight edge by winning three out of the five categories being scored. The reason why I say it was only a slight advantage is because Annie raised way more money then Joan did.

I was really impressed with how Annie played the show and she did a good job representing the poker world. I personally thought that she should have won the season because she did better on the final task in my opinion, she raised more money over the course of the show and won more tasks as the team leader then Joan. All of these reasons I feel should have lead to Annie winning the event, but in the mind most of the people in the board room thought otherwise. I feel a lot of people felt that Joan did well for her age, but it shouldn’t have been about age or anything like that.

On the same note the Cereus Poker Network has been growing in traffic steadily since Annie appeared on the Celebrity Apprentice. It seems her appearance on the show has helped the network grow and I’m not really sure why. I’ll be checking out the network soon and if I feel it’s a good fit for the website we might see my next review show up here.
