As most of you already know the Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and Patrick Antonius challenge in well underway and the two players have been finding time lately to put some hands in. Tom challenge back Patrick and several other players to a 50K PLO challenge to see who could win more money. The winner gets to keep the money they win plus if Patrick beats Tom, Tom needs to pay an extra $1 million.
With Tom Dwan trying to prove to the poker world that he can compete with the best poker players in the world he has been opening up many challenges to some of the best players. In this challenge which is over 20% complete now Tom hasn’t been able to win many big hands and after the last hour long session he is behind the eight ball. Tom Dwan has emerged as one of the best young poker players from the online poker circuit, but I’m not sure he can compete with the best in the world yet.
A couple days ago the two sat down for some action and managed to play another 290 hands of the challenge. The two players have now completed 13,246 hands out of 50,000 total hands and Patrick is currently sitting with a huge lead of $488,133. The challenge was going back and forth for the most part prior to this last session and Tom was really able to limit his losses, but the last session Tom wasn’t really focused. He lost $328,406 in just under an hour the last session which is why he is down so much in the challenge now.
We all know that poker can take huge swings though, and I would expect that Tom should be able to close up the gap a little bit. I don’t think Tom will be able to beat Antonius in this challenge as I think he bit off more then he could chew, but he should be able to keep it within reason I would suspect.
